We’ve had great successes and achievements in working with young people and organisations for the past 3 years! We haven’t been able to list everything, but here are a few things we’ve been proud to achieve to encourage a youth volunteering culture!Spotlight Talent Showcase in Redhill, an event organised by young people that raised £3500 for local charities.Chalkmead Residential Home Art and Craft Project, which saw young volunteers working with the elderly residents to design and paint plant pots.Surrey Association for Visual Impairment’s Apprentice Business Challenge was won by a team of Surrey vinvolved volunteers from The Ashcombe School, and 11 new teams have been recruited for the 2010/11 challenge. Showing off a voluntary renovation project with young people to MP Philip Hammond, and meeting with 6 other MPs in Surrey.CLIC Sargent collections in Egham, Caterham and Leatherhead, which raised over £1000 for the children’s cancer charity.The Superhero Fashion Show and one-week promotional event with The Peacock Shopping Centre in Woking and Eagle FM during which over 100 new volunteers signed up for Surrey vinvolved and over 60 took part in volunteering projects promoted at the eventKayleigh Telfer won the Reigate & Banstead Mayor’s Young Volunteer of the Year and was also nominated for the national YMCA Young Achiever of the Year.VDay, another event organised by young volunteers that raised over £1000 for four charities in 6 hours. The event saw teams take on a one-day Apprentice-style challenge in Woking Town centre, plus advertising on BBC Surrey Radio!Recruited 32 volunteers for Guilfest!The BigvBus made appearances to both Universities in Surrey – Royal Holloway in Egham and The University of Surrey in Guildford. We made a real mark on the campuses with a few hundred students registering to volunteer!We hosted 5 training workshops for community organisations entitled “How to engage young volunteers” and “Creating Projects for Youth Volunteers.”16 of our Youth Action Team volunteers attended a 1 day training workshop delivered by Pfizer on Project Management and Media Communication.We have worked with some great organisations, to name a few: Surrey Volunteer Centres, Surrey Connexions, Surrey CC Youth Development Service, Active Surrey Sports, Redhill Youth Consortium and South East England Volunteering Development Council, Mayor of Reigate and Banstead and the Borough Council, Guilfest, Surrey Wildlife Trust, Oxjam, Furnistore, British Heart Foundation, The Spike, See Ability, SAVI, Chalkmead Residential Home, St John Ambulance, Link Leisure, The Halow Project, Woking and Sam Beare Hospices, and Age Concern. We worked with many schools, colleges and both Surrey Universities across the county, to name a few, George Abbot, Surrey University, St Bedes Redhill, Ashcombe School, Reigate College, Guildford & Farnham College, Royal Holloway University.
