Spotlight- the Boroughs’ got Talent!

East Surrey vinvolved spotlight youth talent show, on 25 February at the Harlequin Theatre, Redhill, was a great fundraising success! Raising over £3400 for the Mayor’s three chosen local charities, Reigate & Redhill YMCA, Brambles Respite care centre and Dycover and giving young people in the Reigate and Banstead a chance to show case their musical talent.

Celebrity guest, soap star; Shane Richie, Mayor of Reigate & Banstead; Richard Mantell and more than 300 spectators turned up to enjoy the show! The acts included singers, gymnasts, martial arts groups, bands and choirs from schools and sixth form colleges across the borough. Those it was a show case, rather than a talent show, there was an award for most entertaining act, which was presented to Sovereign gymnastics.

Gary wheeler (Orpheus centre for performing arts) the young critique for the evening, was impressed with the whole event, saying: “Spotlight Talent show was very well organised by the vinvolved young people. An enthusiastic and lively audience added to the ambience making for an enjoyable ¬evening, showcasing the young talent of Redhill and as the papers say “ Redhill really does have talent” it was Fantastic!”

The project was a youth lead activity supported by Surrey vinvolved team and working in partnership with The Mayor of Reigate and Banstead (Cllr Richard Mantle). So the young ¬people took a lead role in project planning, budgeting, auditioning, branding including designing posters and the programme, general publicity and acting actively managed the performance on the night. The young leader, Kayleigh-Jade Telfer, said; “It has been a such a hectic couple of months. ..but it was totally worth it thought. I’m so passionate about bringing through talented performers.’’

All of the acts had a great time; one of these Elizabeth Theodorou , expresses her excitement “Music is my passion. I find performing is a good way to channel my energy. I feel alive and happy when I perform and I love to entertain people. Thank you for the opportunity to perform in this show and pursue my dream”.
